Description
Strategies of Interactive Narrative in Games for Narrative Designers is a textbook I have been researching and writing for. This project started as my English undergraduate research capstone where I was tasked with writing an academic research paper on a literary topic of my choice. Wanting to combine my skills in English, storytelling, and game design as well as further shape my philosophies as it pertains to game and narrative design, I decided to research the common mechanics used within modern video game narratives to tell a story and how these mechanics can be used most effectively. Using a comparative analysis of multiple game texts, I seek to highlight the ways in which mechanics have been used to most effectively convey parts of a story and ways in which they have failed to. This project has since taken shape into more of a textbook format, with the intent of educating beginner level narrative designers on the medium and expanding the reader’s narrative toolkit. In addition, I presented my research findings at RIT’s Senior English Capstone Symposium and answered questions related to my research.

Role
I have been the sole researcher and writer for this project. I have received editorial help from my classmate, Jack Keegan, and RIT Professor Robert Glick.
