Crowd Comic

Description
Crowd Comic is a collaborative art application where users create and submit comic panels in order to tell a shared branching narrative. Users can read an ever growing library of user created comics and explore the multiple paths they take to see alternative ways that the narrative can go. Inspired users can add on to the comic’s story by using the application’s drawing experience to create a set of 3 panels and advance the story in any way that they see fit for the rest of the community to see. The team’s mission was to capture the beautiful disharmony that comes from individual visions for how a story unfolds.

Role
I participated in working on the Crowd Comic coop from May 2024 until August 2024. In this time I designed the application’s systems of interactions collaboratively in a small team, focusing on branching narrative and UX design. I developed the application’s suite of drawing tools, its persistent data, and image exporting using TypeScript and external JavaScript libraries, such as PaperJS, within the React framework. Alongside my producer, I wrote internal technical documentation on team designs and code bases for future software developers to reference. Additionally, I wrote copy for the website’s front page to highlight the project’s features as well as collaborated within a small team to create the project’s branding.

I served as a team lead for the majority of the project of my time working on Crowd Comic. In my tenure I held daily team standups to facilitate the discussion of team progress and gain feedback from the rest of the team. I then delegated tasks to team members using GitHub project boards. In addition, I presented my team’s progress and demonstrated in-development features to supervisors and production management on a weekly basis.
